A woman wins the Physics Nobel prize for the first time in 55 years

02.10.18 / Donna Strickland has become the first woman to win the Physics Nobel prize since 1963, and only the third ever female recipient. The award recognises her discoveries in laser physics, and she shares it with Arthur Ashkin and Gerard Mourou.

Just a few days ago a scientist at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) offended many by claiming during a lecture that physics had been “built by men.” He has since been suspended.
