UN report details horrific sexual violence in Myanmar
18.09.2018 / A new UN report details the horrific extent to which the Burmese army are using sexual violence in their conflict with the Rohingya people.
The 440 page document features accounts of murders and torture including of women tied by their hair to trees before being raped. Rape and sexual violence have long been used as weapons by the armed forces of Myanmar in what has been widely condemned as ethnic cleansing against the Rohingya. The report also cites people stating they have seen naked women and girls running in distress, and dead bodies scattered with “large amounts of blood … visible between their legs”.
