25. 06. 19 / In Grenoble, southeastern France, Muslim women are defying the burkini ban by wearing the swimsuit at a local swimming pool.
In a move to defend what they say are their rights, they entered the pool and bathed for about an hour with members of the community on Sunday, despite being told by lifeguards that their swimsuits were not allowed.
The protest is part of a campaign that began in May 2018 with a petition signed by more than 600 Muslim women urging Grenoble Mayor Éric Piolle to reform the rules governing public swimming pools.
