Pope appoints six women to top Vatican roles
Pope Francis appointed six women to the Vatican’s Council for the Economy on Thursday, in a significant move to fulfil his promise to place women in top positions.
The appointees are all European with high-profile financial backgrounds. They will oversee the Vatican’s finances and address its cashflow problems in the most senior roles ever given to women within the Catholic church’s leadership. Until now, the 15-member Council for the Economy was all male.
