Kim Godwin makes history as she is named president Kim Godwin makes history as she is named president of ABC News, the first Black woman to head a broadcast TV news division in the US.

Godwin (@newsmom8), whose appointment was made official Wednesday by ABC parent Walt Disney Co., comes from CBS. After serving multiple roles in local TV news, Godwin joined CBS News in 2007, where she recently was executive vice president and was known for championing diversity.

“Throughout Kim’s career in global news organizations and local newsrooms, she has distinguished herself as a fierce advocate for excellence, collaboration, inclusion and the vital role of accurate and transparent news reporting,” said Peter Rice, chairman of Disney General Entertainment Content, to whom she will report.

Alessandra Galloni will be Reuters’ next editor- Alessandra Galloni will be Reuters’ next editor-in-chief, the company announced on Monday, the first woman to hold the post in the news agency’s 170-year history.

Reuters is one of the world’s biggest news organisations, with 2,500 journalists in 200 locations. Galloni has been working at the news agency for more than eight years, covering business and political news. She currently holds the top position of global managing editor and speaks four languages.

Michael Friedenberg, the president of Reuters, said in a statement that Galloni had “a compelling vision for the future of news.”

Emirati Nora Al Matrooshi has been selected to joi Emirati Nora Al Matrooshi has been selected to join the UAE’s Astronaut Programme, making her the first-ever Arab female astronaut.

Al Matrooshi works as an engineer at the Abu Dhabi-based National Petroleum Construction Co. and was selected from a total of 4,305 applicants, including 1,400 female applicants.

She will join three other astronauts for training at Nasa’s Johnson Space Centre in Houston, Texas, US as part of a joint strategic agreement between the UAE and the US. Once completed, all of four of them will be qualified for Nasa-led space missions.

So far, out of more than 550 astronauts who have gone to space, only 65 have been women.

Samia Suluhu Hassan, who has been vice president s Samia Suluhu Hassan, who has been vice president since 2015, became Tanzania’s first woman president on Friday. 

She is also the country’s first president born in Zanzibar, the archipelago that forms part of the union of the Republic of Tanzania.

“This is a time to bury our differences, and stand united as a country. This is not a time for finger pointing, but it’s a time to hold hands and move forward together,” she said after she was sworn in.
