"Everyday' is a cathartic play about survival and "Everyday' is a cathartic play about survival and friendship in the deaf community."

Everyday is a play that draws on the real life experiences of women and non-binary people in the deaf community who have survived various forms of abuse.

Performed using a mixture of spoken English and British Sign Language, Everyday is produced by Deafinitely Theatre, the UK’s first deaf-led professional theatre company.

It was founded in 2002 by actor and director Paula Garfield, who had become frustrated with the barriers that existed for deaf performers in mainstream media.

“I would love to be able to show the world that “I would love to be able to show the world that Muslim women can adhere to our religion and be good wrestlers too. We need to break free from the idea that we have to be practically naked to participate in sports, whether it be wrestling, volleyball, swimming or gymnastics." - Latifah McBryde

McBryde is a Muslim wrestler from New York who combats wearing a hijab in adherence with her religious beliefs. After qualifying to represent the US at the Pan-American Wrestling Championships in Mexico this summer, @latifah_theartist was asked to choose between her passion and her religion. Either she competes wearing a singlet – the one-piece, tight-fitting, wrestling uniform – in accordance with United World Wrestling (UWW) guidelines, or she forfeits her spot on the team and her right to compete.

“I was very disappointed, but I had expected some backlash,” McBryde tells us. “I have put in a lot of time and dedication into this sport. An opportunity of this magnitude is huge, and for it to be snatched from under my feet hurts.”

More than ten thousand people so far have signed an online petition to support McBryde and urge the UWW to let her compete in clothing that respects her religious beliefs.

We spoke to Latifah, @asmaelbadawi and @nordianapw about being a Muslim female athlete.

"Each number is not just a victim, it’s a family "Each number is not just a victim, it’s a family, friends, and entire community. The ripple effect from gun violence runs deep." - Diana Earl, gun violence prevention activist.

Diana Earl has been fighting to change gun laws and gun culture in the US for years. Two months after her only son, 22-year-old Dedrick, was shot and killed while visiting a friend, she joined the gun prevention movement @momsdemand. The movement has grown to be one of the biggest oppositions to gun lobbying, and has successfully effected change at the local, state and national level.

“We respect the Second Amendment for law-abiding citizens,” Earl told us in an interview a few years back. “We need to keep guns out of the hands of people with dangerous histories and reduce the risk of easy access to weapons.”

It’s on all of us to collaborate and work together, she said. There are many ways to advocate for gun violence prevention. “Contact your state legislators. Contact your members of Congress,” she urged. “It takes action to get things done. Speak and act and watch mountains move.”

NADJA Media is delighted to announce that we are p NADJA Media is delighted to announce that we are partnering with Katamat Records on Sudan Rap Lab 2022, a week-long, live-in residency programme for women in Sudan who want to develop their skills as songwriters and performers.

We are very excited to be partners with @Katamatrecords on this project, which will help amplify the voice of Sudanese women in hip hop, typically a male-dominated form of music.

Backed by the British Council SSA Arts Cultural Exchange fund and Open Media & Culture Agency in Sudan, the project will culminate with the production of an album of original music that will be released internationally, both digitally and on vinyl through Katamat Records and Wild Youth Digital.

Click the link in bio to read our interview with Katamat Records founder Philip Bennet @phillybdriven and find out why this project is so important.
