On this day in 2012, Fatma Nabil became the first anchor in Egypt to present the news while wearing a hijab, after the state television lifted a decades-long ban on veiled female news presenters going on air. She read a mid-day news bulletin broadcast on Sunday wearing a cream-coloured hijab – the first time ever since the channel launched in 1960.
