On this day in 2009, Marzieh Vahid-Dastjerdi became the first female minister in the Islamic Republic of Iran

On this day in 2009, Marzieh Vahid-Dastjerdi became the first woman to be appointed as a minister in Iran since the 1979 Revolution, holding the position of Minister of Health and Medical Education. After her confirmation she said: “This is an important step for women and I hold my head high”.
