On this day in 1846, Sarah Bagley became the first female telegraph operator in the US

On this day in 1846, American labour activist Sarah George Bagley became the first female telegraph operator in the US. She advocated for shorter workdays for factory operatives and mechanics, campaigning to make ten working hours a day the maximum in Massachusetts, nearly a century before unions became legal.
